Martin answered a few of these earlier (he's great) but I had to put in my two cents:

Hello again, I am just trying to find out where you guys are regarding
the whyubuntu.com project. I would like to find out people's progress so
far. At this moment in time I have just secured myself a director i.e. a
student doing Film & Media Studies. We're working out the fine details
of the project over here as a contributor on this end. I would like to
make a request however to Jacob; my friend would happily help the
project however he is asking if he may use his work on his course
portfolio & projects.
This question almost seems silly.  YES, of course.  We're trying to promote an open source project and anyone who contributes should certainly do a good enough job to want to show it off to the world.  They 'own' it just as much as anyone else does.  It's not too hard to build a "contributors" page and include his name and a URL link.
Also it would be appreciated if it was possible
for him to use the final videos too however he of course wouldn't be
referenced as the author rather a contributor refering to the final
project, especially the case of the "I Am Ubuntu" sub-project to show
the examiner the community end-product and how his contribution can be
used together to create something bigger.

YES, again.  I'm so easy to work with.  ;-)
I'd also like to find out what you guys are up to if you are
contributing?
      * Have you started planning and/or recording yet?
      * Have any of you thought of any more ideas?
      * How far is the webdesign looking?
      * Do we have a set structure now for the I am Ubuntu ad, i.e.
"Hello my name is Chris and I am Ubuntu" or "Hello my name is
Chris, I am a student and I use Ubuntu freely for my work." etc.

We've had no video's submitted yet for the "I am Ubuntu" etc.  Once I get them I'll put together the most persuasive/interesting version.  This final version may or may not include names or locations for everyone.  Such details can be casualties of the editing process.  In the end we should have a good production, that's what's key.

I can't remember if I've already stated this, but we've had so many good ideas for videos, and all of them all equally relative, that they can ALL be showcased on the main page for the site.  We'll just set it up so they take turns...  Maybe a different one each week.

If I get enough "I am Ubuntu"s to make that video it'll be added to the showcase.  If I get enough  "I use it in my work etc." clips, then I'll make the video and add it to the showcase in turn.

I did a rough cut of an "I am Ubuntu clip" with my daughter.  I haven't had the time to clean it up yet, and google video makes it look very pixelated.  This is the only submission thus far.  :-)  I hope you can see the need for more people to contribute.

Any furthers ideas/brainstorms?

YES:  I've been noticing a lot of commercials lately here in the US.  All of them would be fairly easy to "spoof."  I think we need to assign them to folks.  Your director/friend may be best to do some of these, or come up with his own.

: Weight loss video--I still think this is funny & tasteful
: Hair loss video--The premises is that less stress helps you keep your hair longer.  You don't have to worry about viruses.
: Anything by Billy Mays in it.--Just find some dude with a beard, have him yell into a camera  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Mays
: Beer Commerical--Put a bottle of brew next to the computer.  Get a bunch of women to fall all over the guy.  Have someone ask if it's the brand of beer, then have them say that it's Ubuntu.  (This is the lamest idea yet--so I have no problem if no one wants to tackle it.)  "Ubuntu" it's not a beer... it's better!

We need a PR team for this project as well as a mission statement.  Once the email list is set up we'll be able to build on these.  There's a lot more to this promotion than a few videos.  I'm hoping we have it all up an running by groundhog day, Feb 2, (maybe a bit late though).  The day the site gets up and running we'll need folks to email a press release, post it on their blogs etc.  We'll need a logo of sorts and be able create promotional buttons for blogs.  We'll need to get a big monster of people out there working.  If everyone does some small part, it should be pretty easy to do.

Anyone want to play with the Ubuntu Logo to come up with "WhyUbuntu.com" & "WhyUbuntu"  & "?Ubuntu" Logos?

Rough draft mission statement:  A site to promote Ubuntu as a credible operating system in direct competition with Microsoft and Apple's application suite.

Throwin' it out there!

Chris, Martin, & the rest.  Thank you for your work on this!  I kinda can't say that enough.
