I was going to say i would save to the sd card then you can pop it out
and put it into the machine - im pretty sure they are formatted fat32 so
should just plug in and display the pictures
also if you have developer mode enabled in the settings it might display
on the machine with the USB cable as long as previously stated that the
phone must be on a unlocked screen

The frustrating thing is I'm unable to tell if their system is in some
way only able to work with the big OS's or if there was some sort of
fault with the lead (though we did try 2 machines) or if there is some
design choice within Ubuntu which needs changing. Having tried my
memory card and then discovering the photos aren't stored on there I
copied them all over to it. It would be interesting to go back when I
have more time and see if it would now work, if their system was only
checking my SD card and ignoring the phone itself.
