Welcome plugin does not work, cannot find QtQuick

Bug description:
The welcome plugin of QtCreator does not work (it just displays garbage).
Running qtcreator on the console gives the following error:
file:///usr/share/qtcreator/welcomescreen/welcomescreen.qml:30:1: module
"QtQuick" is not installed
import QtQuick 2.1
