Using a VPN I have at hand (I don't control the server part of it, though), I
can confirm that with n-m 1.2.6 my local DNS (10.0.5.5) is injected after the
vpn is established:
Aug 31 20:36:32 31-64 dnsmasq[1118]: setting upstream servers from DBus
Aug 31 20:36:32 31-64 dnsmasq[1118]: using nameserver 10.0.5.5#53(via ens3)
Aug 31 20:36:32 31-64 dnsmasq[1118]: using nameserver 10.172.64.1#53 for domain
internal
...

That extra 10.0.5.5 DNS server is not injected when I establish the same
connection using n-m 1.2.2.

I have the "Use this connection only for resources on this network" in
the ipv4->routes tab NOT checked, i.e., my intention is that all traffic
goes through the VPN. And I have method set to "ignore" in the ipv6
settings tab, so it's just ipv4.
