Do you mean Pulse will change the output device rate depending on what is playing? That sounds like it would break the jack/PA dbus interface. (even more than it is now) Maybe not. What will it do with things like gphone or skype where the incoming audio may be at 44.1k but the mic runs at 48k (only)? This is not uncommon BTW.
