I don't really see any downsides being an official Ubuntu flavour otherwise.
As for joining forces with KXstudio, an open collaborative work would be interesting, but I think FalkTX like to do things his way or no way. That might have changed as I base this on past readings and documented discussions, not that I have had any personal contact with him. I would personally not leave Ubuntu Studio to contribute to KXstudio, it's not in my interest. In case Ubuntu Studio would stand without contributors or being pulled by Canonical I would most likely try to contribute to Xubuntu and use that as my Audio/Video set up. /Jimmy
