Yeah, it pretty much comes down to theming. If we are prepared to drop
our own, the solution is quite simple.

But, if we do want our own custom desktop specific for audio use, with
absolute control of every single service in the system we need our own
desktop seed and settings. We aren't doing that currently. Our desktop
meta is an old version of Xubuntu's with a few changes since, so it's
not like we would be dropping our own desktop setup - since we have
none, so to speak.

I would suggest using xubuntu's desktop and renaming our own desktop (for clarity) and only including in it a few things that may be different from anyone's desktop that we just can't live without doing. -settings needs a look at to see if it contains much in the way of DE settings that could be moved to -desktop-extra (my new name... so open to change) Or audio system setting could be moved to a new package. I would like to see an audio setting package that is not tied to ubuntustudio, but starting it out as a US package would be the easiest way to start off. I would be willing to keep a github src of it under a more generic name that we could in future request packaging from debian (even providing a deb for them to work from). (doing a US package gets into our use sooner, through debian is more permanent)
