I, too, run "Kubuntu Studio." I just tried, and can't reproduce your problem.
More or less the same software landscape, same kernel, etc., so I'd say your
problem might be specific to your particular CD drive or something.
No clue, really, but K3B definitely isn't inoperable for me.
did you install Kubuntu or UbuntuStudio first ?
i have the same problem on 2 computers
on a french forum i saw somebody with the same problem ( Ubuntu + KDE)
