You could be the only one with that device on this list. I read about how it worked with one FireWire stack and not the other and decided against it, though that was years ago and I hope support is better. Ideally, it would be up to echo to provide you support. They may not officially support Linux. I would rule out a hardware issue. If the device worked with the 13.10 live CD and doesn't work now with the 13.10 live CD, then that could indicate an issue with the hardware somewhere.
