Depends on how you assume the Launchpad is designed. We are not auto-approving sourcepackages with multiple templates in them, and especially not if they change paths. Basically, there are quite a few possible improvements, but when you see what we have seen (people uploading packages which use entirely different POT file names from one upload to the other), there is not much you can do in providing a generic solution unless you spend quite some time exploring it. >From recent discussions with Ubuntu people, we are considering special casing Ubuntu packages, but that requires more work, and we've not yet scheduled it. > Moreover, we are talking about 4 August 2008 - two months ago! There was some miscommunication between Ubuntu and Launchpad teams about sharing responsibilities for template approvals, and nothing ended up being looked at in the Ubuntu queue. We've tracked the problem down only recently (about a week or two ago), and have since worked hard to resolve all the remaining issues. > Surely the solution is just to look at the most recent upload? I agree, except that we were not even supposed to look at these things anymore (minus the miscommunication problem, so we ended up looking at it when we realised the sitatuion became critical). > I wonder if there is any way that package uploaders or maintainers > could be more involved in the pot template approval / review process? > At the moment there seem to be serious communication issues... They indeed could. We are helping set up an Ubuntu Translations Coordinator team (at the moment led by Arne Goetje, but Canonical is hiring a dedicated person for the role, and we are hoping for community participation) which would get a lot of power in managing Ubuntu templates and translations in Launchpad. How the team organizes themselves from then on is up to the Ubuntu guys (i.e. including packagers and maintainers), and we'd work in implementing the policies that suit them best. That will also allow us to concentrate on actual Launchpad hacking, trying to spend more time on implementing features Ubuntu community needs than managing templates which can very well be done by somebody from the community who would not need to do so much investigation before they could set it up (i.e. a packager is bound to know quite a few details). > > I tried pinging you the other day on IRC, but then got busy with other > > stuff.
