This seams like a good idea, my idea was to write a custom script to
copy the lines, but this way the translations will appear as suggestions
on LP and managers will know whats going on.

This seams a clumsy way to handle translations, any reason that it couldn't
be handled threw LP?
The normal review and privileges process is gone and it is easy to edit a
different lang by mistake.
Plus it's not in an obvious place to look for translations.
I see this page is up from 2010-09-07, but I had no idea it existed. I
may have read an email about it, or even responded to one, but I have
completely forgotten.
I suggest creating a dummy Launchpad project with a few .pot files to
translate, one for each thing that's translated now here
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Wanted/
* Ubuntu One welcome e-mail in Evolution
* Firefox browser desktop entry
* Thunderbird desktop entry
* Chromium browser desktop entry
Give it a big priority in LP because these are strings the users will
likely see.
