On Focal there is "Reading database" and "X files and directories
currently installed" (I think I remember it was 2 strings) and
"Preparing to unpack" whereas Hirsute and the upcoming release have
it in Occitan.
Well, the translations are there in focal.
$ echo $(LANGUAGE=oc gettext -d dpkg '(Reading database ... ')
(Lectura de la basa de donadas...
And if you open gnome-terminal and run
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
you'll see the messages in your language.
However, I could reproduce the issue in focal by using the Software
Updater tool. Apparently there is some bug in update-manager, so the
messages are shown untranslated in the Details view.
Considering that it works as expected in both hirsute and impish, maybe
it's something we can live with. At least there seems not to be a
general Launchpad bug with translations not being 'transferred' between
the releases.
