Yes, I went through that.  You clearly haven't got the module installed.
  Just before we give up, try adding 'wacom' (without the quotes) to the
end of the etc/modules:

  gksudo gedit /etc/modules

and reboot.  This will make sure the module, if installed, is being
loaded at boot.

All I can say is that I tried on 9.04 for ages, to no avail.  I don't
say it can't be done;  but I couldn't do it.  So I'm using 8.04 (with
the linuxwacom 0.8.3-4 driver, which is the right one for the Intuos4;
but you may need the 0.8.2.2 driver - please check which is right for
the Bamboo, as I don't know.)  The 8.04 seems to work better with the
wacom drivers.

You know I commiserate with you about this hassle.
