I don't know if the Radio 4 stream is an exception but the following plays quite happily using mplayer (with the right codecs installed); mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio4/radio4_bb_live_eq1_sl0 Maybe similar URLs can be found for the other stations?
