I now have a key on my wi-fi. When I first put one in, Linux would not let me in as the WEP key was too short, Windows didn't seem to have any idea that this was the case. For some reason I don't understand, switching from 64 bit encryption to 128 bit allowed me to havew a short key. os illogical. But now it works OK. About time I had a secured connection anyway. Glad I was prompted. Wish I could solve the original problem. Try using a different key. The recommended number of characters is on my Linksys setup screen. It accepts less.
