Best is to look for a good deal on a Logitech webcam then go to the
Logitech site and see if it is one of their UVC (USB Video Class)
standard webcams which are fully supported in Linux

I did see a report that someone had done a lot of fantastic work to
get
other types of webcams supported, but I would stick to UVC.
