There are plenty of businesses who use SIP extensively. I'd admit you don't get the best experience on your phone for any app, but try it at home on your own router and using your laptop or asterisk or just on your phone - cabled is also better than wifi. This sort of thing is probably why SIP on the desktop tends to have fallen to an object that looks and acts suspiciously like a POTS phone...
