As with others, the proviso is that I haven't tried these methods, but
both the wiki and forum thread seem to be well supported with updates
(for the Wiki) and ongoing discussions (for the forum).

Those are exactly the places I need to start. Thanks very much. I should
think someone will come up with a download and burn package that will
defeat the Microsoft Windows 8 protection before too long, so that the
ordinary user can just change to Ubuntu, just as they could before
Microsoft did this.
