For anybody else that has been struggling to get a Dell Latitude D800 with Nvidia Go 4200 geoforce card running, due to nasty distorted graphics and mouse on the splash screen and in Gnome, the suggestion to add the blacklist option to the grub loader worked perfectly:
blacklist=vga16f I wish this was in the standard Lucid upgrade and LiveCD from the start. But there you go...
