Question #76863 on Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/76863

Tom proposed the following answer:
Please go up to the top taskbar and click on

Applications - Accessories - Terminal

into the terminal/command window/console type

uname -a

it should output a line telling you about what version of linux you are
running. If there's a i686, or i486 or something like that then you are
runnin 32bit version. If instead it says x86_64 then it's a 64bit
version. I tend to agree with Shane, stick with 32bit Ubuntu :)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
