Tom proposed the following answer:
It should be possible to upgrade it to 8.04 but it will take a while to
download the updates & the upgrade for that. Try
Applications - Accessories - Terminal
and into the terminal/command window/console type
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
i think that should do the trick
