Ok, i'm not sure about that error message either. Maybe your partition
is full up? During bootup you get quite a few options for booting into
Ubuntu? The second one should have "recovery mode" near the end of it's
line and that should take you to a menu of handy routine maintenance
tasks. The recovery mode menu is on a disturbingly blue screen but
shoul have a "Clear some space" and "dpkg Fix broken packages" and then
back to it's default item at the top of the menu "Resume normal bootup".
Hopefully that should give you a bit of space and fix everything so
it'll work properly <crosses fingers>
