I know this is a common topic, but I think this may be a simple case. I want to connect a external LCD monitor to my laptop (Acer 22"). Using ATI radeon video and a VGA port.
When I connect the monitor and open the 'Screen Resolution" applet, it's detected properly and is shown. I configured both monitors, checked and unchecked 'mirror'. The whole time the external display stayed in standby (orange light). Laptop display acted normal.
