I have a very simple sound setup, and I'm very confused on how to
configure it I have done some tinkering so things might be a little
off of what is expected.
I would really like to know how Alsa relates to PulseAudio. Things
like:
Is one dependant on the other?
How do I properly configure the devices with PulseAudio?
How do I properly configure the devices with Alsa?
[Important]What configuration files are there for both and what is the
appropriate place to set things?
Situation:
I have 1 USB headset that I use and no internal sound, or sound cards
$ cat /proc/asound/cards
1 [default ]: USB-Audio - Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000
Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 at usb-0000:00:1a.
0-2, full speed
$ cat /proc/asound/devices
2: : timer
3: : sequencer
4: [ 1- 0]: digital audio playback
5: [ 1- 0]: digital audio capture
6: [ 1] : control
The speakers work perfectly, however the microphone has only worked
once but I know that it does in fact work, and only till I restarted
the program (gstreamer-properties)
How do I begin to figure out how to configure this, it seems there are
tons and tons of applications to let you configure which device to
use, but not how to configure the device except for ~/.asoundrc And I
would love to use ~/.asoundrc except that it has the most confusing
syntax I've ever seen and no explanations on parameters.
I'd appreciate any replies and after being ignored for 3 days on the
irc channels #alsa and #ubuntu I'll even settle for a Hi there, sorry
I can't help you.
