What do you mean when say: Doesn't activate? Wireless starts but doesn't connect to the internet, or wireless device is not recognized at all by ubuntu? From my experience I can imagine that you have both windows and linux with dual boot on your laptop. Some wireless devices (vendors) are set to be deactivated by windows, when windows shuts down. After that if you try to boot linux, wireless device is not recognized at all. It is one of known problems. Solution of this problem is to uncheck the choice "deactivate device on shutdown" in wireless settings in windows. I don't know what exactly is your problem. Tell more please.
