Yes, I have both.  In Ubuntu, wireless does not start and is not
connected to the internet.  My laptop has an orange LED showing the
wireless device is active and working.  At start up, this LED is off.
Therefore, the wireless device is either not being recognized, or it's
not be activated.  As mentioned before, a simple reboot fixes this and
turns on the wireless.  I know if the wireless gets turned on because
the LED will light up while in the boot sequence.

I'm not sure if Winows is doing this since for the past few days I've
only been using Ubuntu (both shutting down and starting).  I went into
the device configuration in Windows.  Under power management I turned
off its ability to turn off the wireless device to save power.  That's
the only thing I could find for deactivating the device.  I'll let you
know if that changed anything.
