It also occurs when I create a new file using Nautilus (right clicking and then 'Create a new file') and trying to rename it to .zip but not when I create it in a terminal using touch for instance.
Were you using Ubuntu One on another machine, or using the web UI, at the same time as you tried adding the .zip file?
