I don't want to pile on, but I have had a similar experience.
My main motivation for using the paid service was to financially support
Canonical. But the fact is that U1 has never worked for me. I've given
up and moved to Dropbox. I might come back and try again in a year.

I have the same feeling. If UbuntuOne can't fix the problem soon, users
will soon lose their loyalty. A part of the reason I use UbuntuOne is
because that I want support an open source revenue way. But, if it
causes me more trouble, I will leave it. I have been experiencing file
conflict troubles all the time and sometimes my new files got swiped
away by the sync though the versions on the server side were old.

To whom it may concern,
I am an avid Ubuntu user so when I first heard about Ubuntu One I was
excited to use it to backup my business's data. Unfortunately no part
of Ubuntu one has been working for me (using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic). The
application crashes as soon as I click it, the Ubuntu One folder hangs
on "connecting..." and the web interface is unresponsive when I
attempt to upload a large file.
I am forced to end my paid subscription with Ubuntu One and look into
alternative cloud storage such as DropBox, CrashPlan or Jungle Disk.
I understand good software takes time to perfect, but I've waited
nearly three weeks for the problems to be fixed. Am I suppose to pay
monthly for zero service? As a company that has yet to make a profit;
I would advise Canonical to spend more energy on the applications that
will turn a profit.
