I'm hoping someone who has seen this can chime in, but you can look in ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log and check oauth-login.log at a minimum. You also might try launching ubuntuone-preferences from the command line, to see if there's any helpful info generated.
I believe that ubuntuone-client-tools provides the u1sdtool, which can show some more granular info, though I'm not sure it will help in your case. You would use it on the command line: e.g., " u1sdtool --status" . The man page for u1sdtool gives what appears to be a good synopsys.
