Hello, I am the user who expressed concern about the fonts in Ubuntu Studio. I believe the volume of installed fonts is a problem, though a minor one in the scope of development. The first thing I do with a new installation is use Synaptec to remove anything that is universe or mulit-verse (I have no idea which fonts are necessary for Ubuntu core). This noticeably improves the loading time of graphics programs and stops Inkscape from crashing when selecting a typeface, which happens regularly with large a font list. In addition, the variety of included fonts is unbalanced, weighing heavily on the side of impractical display typefaces. It is quite overwhelming. I think better font organization would greatly improve the user experience.
I like sakrecoer's idea of a better organized font manager with a limited number activated by default. Also, I would like to suggest adding an option to install different fonts in the Ubuntu Studio installer, much like how audio plug-ins are treated. Let me know if I can help. We should minimize the fonts we distribute to an amount which is reasonable.
