Just a head's up, the Inkscape bug that affects me has already been reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1122374 It's probably not related to the number of installed fonts, but does occur when using the font selection drop-down. I avoid using the drop- down whenever possible simply because it takes a very long time to load 1000+ fonts and makes my machine sluggish (if it survives without crashing).
