Hello All,

I thought the Ubuntu Studio Testers group and mail list might maximize its
potential by discussing some standardized testing procedures.

Currently I believe that the depth of testing is generally limited to
installation. What I am proposing is developing a deeper testing regime at
the application (or functionality) level. I am hoping that we can have some
discussions that will lead to a codified testing system (perhaps graduated
for different releases) that will be documented at the Ubuntu Studio Testing
wiki page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Testing).

Here are my general and simplified suggestions, which are admittedly biased
towards audio.

AUDIO
* start JACK in real-time and get sounds from an instrument out of speakers
* record sound through JACK into Ardour
* play back sound through Ardour

I would like to suggest a method for testing MIDI and synths functionality
but I'm not versed with either since I'm a musical instrument kind of guy.
Perhaps someone else can suggest it.

VIDEO
* start KINO
* start PiTiVi

GRAPHICS
* start blender
* start GIMP

These are just some very simple ideas that can go beyond the superficial
installation test and functionally test Ubuntu Studio on an application
level. Again, I am hoping for dialogue from everyone on this list so that
we can develop a comprehensive testing programme together and document it.

Warmest Regards,
Scott Lavender
