So what got played last night? I saw Agricola and Niagara, and Shadow
Hunters. It sounded like Shadow Hunters was a blast!

I started off with Stone Age, Playing with Mr. and Mrs. Sylvus and
Nate. It was my first worker-placement game, and I really enjoyed it,
but I had the sneaking suspicion that my victory was largely luck
driver, based on an awesome dice roll/gamble that scored me a pile of
gold. I did choose to put six meeples on the gold mine that turn, and
the results allowed me to purchase a 45 point hut. So if I win a game
but am not quite sure what happened it makes me pause. Still, lots of
fun and dice tension, although I was playing with fun people, so that
helps a lot.

Next we started playing Ghost Stories, which felt like a mashup of
Blue Moon City (a game I traded because it felt like I was just
watching the scoring mechanism at work for an hour) and Pandemic (lots
of fun). The pieces and art are really cool, and Nate made some
awesome ref cards. Unfortunately my brain was starting to shut down
at this point and I had a hard time figuring out the village
iconography, so I had Ken take my place and I headed home to score
some wife points (i.e. getting home at a decent hour). I am a mental
midget--I think I can play about 1-2 medium weight games a night and
then I'm done. I attribute it to either my general lack of good sleep
or ADD, not sure which. I tried drinking a Rock Star prior to playing
once at Blakfyre and stayed awake until 3 a.m.

Matt: please pardon my poor gamer manners--I hope Ken's substitution
didn't cause too much disruption. I need to not play co-op games when
I'm the new/dumb guy! I think I made the same mistake with my first
game of Pandemic, wandering around vacuuming up disease cubes and not
quite sure what was going on. Had I read the rules earlier I might
have been some help. Mea Maxima Culpa!

Other events of the night included:

1. The presence of two kids! Had I known I would have brought my son,
who is 12 but a gamer. Or my nine-year-old, who regularly beats me
(not much of an accomplishment)

2. Dragon's Keep: I was a little nervous when the Magic Players
tromped downstairs, but once they began playing I didn't notice they
were there. Levi phone from his private helicopter to say he couldn't
make it, but wanted to reserve the first Friday as board game night.
I was also impressed with how many MtG players knew the games on the
table and seemed interested in playing. It looks like the group is
going to expand in the future. I don't know if an expanded group will
fit in that space on the same night at the MtG players, however.
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and I enjoyed checking out
the RPGs at the end of the evening, and the old (memories!) copies of
Dragon Magazine. It's nice to be in a store with those layers of
gaming history.

3. It is too bad that the BGR entourage can't join us until later in
the evening, but such is life.

What did you all think of Dragon's Keep and the evening?
