Session Report: April 17th As is typical we sat around for 15 minutes wondering how many more people were going to show up and trying to figure out how to divide up and what games to play. In the end we had a group that wanted to dig into Imperial so some of us decided to go with something a little lighter until more people showed up...
Fast Flowing Forest Fellers: This map choice was quite evil. Lots of currents that could take you almost from one end of the board back to square one - and there was certainly a lot of that going on. My tactic was to try the metagame, take my guys out to the side away from everyone else and not push them in the current in hopes that they would all be so heck bent on revenge for one another that I could stay back a little bit until I drew some of the larger movement cards and make a run for it. My metagame failed. After two years with this group I should have know they would shove me in that current anyway :) For the most part I held my own but never enough to grab the lead. Ed was able to push both his people over the finish line and win. Fury of Dracula: As much as I had hoped to play Le Havre after more people arrived and our game split up there ended up being a group of 4 in that game - based on what the Tylenator has told me a fifth would be a mistake so I pulled out Fury of Dracula and we Nate Day and I rolled to see who would play Dracula. Nate was chosen by the gods of chance so off we went. The Dracula player is usually better off describing the game as the adrenalin experience really helps remember the details. At first we were floundering around and having a difficult time finding him - but then Mina (Bob) drew Hypnosis and although Nate had a card to counter it I also had a card to counter his counter. His location and TWO vampires were revealed. At this point we quit drawing event cards and had SEVERAL skirmishes with Drac that eventually drained him out of the cards we had and we moved in for the kill. Day came, Drac was cornered in his own castle and was forced to move. Ganked by three hunters he dispatched. The world is safe yet again. Niagara: The others were still playing at this point so we pulled out Niagara and played a quick game in hopes it would end about the time of the other games, which ended up working out as hoped. With a full set of five there was a lot of stealing going on and more than a few people that found themselves tossed over the falls. Several of us had a decent collection of gems but providence pushed Nate day to the pink gems and with an ENORMOUS effort he played a 6 paddle and got all five different gems across the line and scored the win. Santiago: I had played this a couple times and much like Reef Encounter the number crunching seemed to pull me out of the already paper thin theme. I decided to bring it along anyway and was surprised when so many expressed interest. I was even more surprised by how much more I enjoyed this play than I had the previous couple. Some games surprise you like that every once in a while and part of it has to do with the people you play with I am sure. To be honest I can't remember who won (I just know I came in last) but I had fun playing. Oltre Mare: Quite a few people had cleared out but Ran, Ed and I were still in the game so Ran pulled this out and we played. It had been long enough that I almost had to learn the game from scratch. My first play left a sour taste in my mouth if I remember correctly but I was able to get a grasp this time around and was able to come out one point behind Ran - who won the game. Overall I had a great night. Five nice solid games and a great time playing each of them. We had quite a people meander in that didn't even know about our group and our ranks may be growing again. Always nice to find new people that like the hobby. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "utah county boardgamers association" group.
