hi, i tried once to repair a missflashed ixp425 based accesspoint by using
openwince jtag to write to the flash.
i build myself a wiggler like here:
http://hri.sourceforge.net/tools/index.html#jtag
i tried this one with a 74hc244 and the version without, like this one:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Customizing/Hardware/JTAG_Cable?highlight=%28jtag%29

after some changes in the source to support the cpu, i could connect and
openwince jtag gave me correct cpu und flash detection.
that was at least a year ago and i did not success with writing to the
flash.
the reason was that the flash programming stops because of verifying the
written content.
i had periodic zero-blocks instead of content.
here my mails from that time:
http://www.nabble.com/Wiggler-IXP425-RedBoot-HOWTO-t907060.html
http://www.nabble.com/Access-Memory-mapped-registers-t877987.html

i think that the cpu was interrupting the writing process. this can answer
why i had such periodic F's.
i had similar effects with a wrt54g from linksys which i flashed via jtag.
therefor i shortcut the first couple pins of the flash to let the cpu crash
(quite a hack but works).
after this the cpu is quite and do not disturbed the flash process.
i tried windows and macraigor as well without success.

 Sorry for this late reply.

Have you tried using OCD commander?
This is a simple, low-level (assembly) debugger that Macraigor provides
for free from their website.
This is a good start to make sure that your JTAG communicates well with
your board.
If you get communication errors trying to connecte using this program too,
you probably either have hw problems, or need to configure your JTAG device
to run with a slower clock.

Are you using a genuine Montejade board or a host that is based on this?
We initially worked fine with the Montejade, but when we went to our own
host we had small HW discrepencies that caused problems with the JTAG until
we figured them out.

 Arnon,

thank you. I tried the two ocd files, but at me it doesn't work. It seems
that the flashprogrammer software is the problem, because my montejade ist
doing fine.
Do you know which version you used? My version is V2.6.0
