Ah, I see the problem now. It was a configuration setup problem for the freescale eval board that I use (M5235EVB). Since there isn't full support for this platform the default for CONFIG_MODVERSION was 'yes' as well as the CONFIG_FIRMWARE_IN_KERNEL default was 'yes' and the lds file for this platform did not have support for that. Futhermore, the Kernel command line was not set correctly either which caused the mounting of the romfs to fail (i.e. it needed root=/dev/mtdblock0). All is working (for now). If possible, I'd like to contribute to the uClinux efforts.
