   Do the following:

   1) Reboot
   2) Login directly to Failsafe
   3) Execute the following commands:

    script
    gnome-session
   
   4) Once gnome fails press +D. This will end the script session. 
A new
     file called typescript would have been generated.
   5) Post the contents of the typescript file here.


   Secondly:  Have you modified your shell's rc file like .profile, 
.cshrc .bashrc etc ?
