LETTER TO THE EDITOR-NEW VISION 11/11/2002

It Was Official Policy For UPC To Kill!

UPC DIEHARD: Dr Rwanyarare

SIRI wish to comment on several issues currently under public debate in this country. Recently, The New Vision published horrendous pictures of the massacre of civilians by LRA bandits in Pader District . soon after. UPCs Dr. James Rwanyarare jumped on the podium and insinuated that the UPDF was involved!
In my opinion, some Ugandans, especially those who call themselves the opposition are taking the concept and practice of freedom of speech just to far. On the other hand, Rwanyarare and his ilk in UPC could genuinely think it a possibility because in their heyday (1980-1985) the government army could indeed commit such atrocities as a policy.
Someone should now educate Rwanyarare to stop living in the past and understand that the fundamental change is what it was meant to be. Suggesting that UPDF can even reach that level of depravity and be so barbarious is sheer madness.
A day or so after the UPC statement, another fellow wrote some lengthy article in another newspaper and went to great length to compare James Opoka (current address, LRA) to President Museveni.
Unless the opposition is running out of ideas, it is only the insane who can compare LRA banditry to the peoples war fought by the NRA in the 80s. it is also important to recall that it is the same committed and patriotic Ugandans in the persons of Kazini, Aronda and others who sacrificed and put their lives on the line in the 80s to rid this country of barbarism who are still slogging it out in northern Uganda and southern Sudan in order to complete the task of liberation.
