State to call frontline soldiers in Monitor case
The State has asked for more time to prepare its case in the controversial helicopter case against the Monitor newspaper.
State Attorney Jane Kajuga told the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Frank Othembi that she needed time to get testimony from soldiers who are currently engaged in Operation Iron Fist against Joseph Kony rebels in northern Uganda.
Charles Onyango Obbo, Monitor's managing editor, Wayama Wangah, news editor and a reporter Frank Nyakairu are charged with publishing information, prejudicial to national security, likely to assist the enemy in its operation. They were also charged with publishing false news.
The story, published by their paper on October 10, alleged that a UPDF helicopter gunship had been brought down while in combat at Adilang Hills in Pader district.
The story further stated that the chopper may have been brought down by the Lords Resistance Army rebels. The army said the story was not true. The case was adjour!
ned to December 11, when it comes up again for mention.
