A UPDF officer attached to the Military Police
headquarters in Makindye, Kampala, is said to be missing.
Capt. Fred
Ssimbwa, a regimental signal officer, has reportedly been missing for over three
weeks after getting permission to visit his family in Mubende district,
colleagues said.
Army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza said they were
giving Ssimbwa a few more days to show up before declaring him missing.
�He asked for permission to go home and it was granted. Let us give him
up to the end of this week,� he said.
But a source said two officers
were sent to Ssimbwa�s home on the orders of the Military Police Commandant, Lt.
Col. Dick Bugingo, but his family was not aware of his whereabouts.
�Under normal circumstances, he should have sent a message to the
headquarters that he is unable to report for duty,� an officer commented.
