Muslim boss under fire over mosque demolition

The Secretary General of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Hajji Idris Kasenene had a rough time on Sunday at a Ramadhan seminar in Kibuli when Muslims attacked him over the demolition of the national mosque.Kasenene had gone to Kibuli Muslim Teachers College on Sunday to make a presentation on: Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Today: Achievements, Threats and Prospects.
Muslims also asked Kasenene to explain why UMSC leadership turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia to complete the mosque that has stalled since 1979. Libya President Col. Muammar Gaddaf, through World Islamic Call Society, offered to build the mosque. His representatives are demolishing the old structure before erecting a new one.
�My problem is the system through which the donation is being channeled. Suppose there are leadership changes in Libya after you have demolished the mosque,� asked UMYA chairman and Makerere don Hajji Kiyimba Abasi.
Imam Kasozi Idd said UMYA wrote to the Mufti Sheik Shaban Mubaje about the issue but he has never responded.
Former UMSC Chairman Hajji Juma Biramahaire said Muslims are fearful of questioning fishy activities of top UMSC leaders.
Kasenene said former Makerere University academic registrar Dr. Mukwanason Hyuha was appointed to head a committee to investigate the loss of UMSC property during UMSC past regimes.
