An official of Congolese RCD-National rebel group has blamed top UPDF
officers for supporting RCD-ML rebel leader Mbusa Nyamwisi.
Deodonne Kahasa attributed the continued suffering of the population and the
start of the current war in northeastern Congolese town of Beni to UPDF
officers.
Kahasa, who claimed to be the spokesman of a new RCD-ML rebel group, admitted
that RCD-N of Roger Lumbala were helping dissidents from Mbusa's group to
march on Beni. On Friday, Mbusa told the BBC that Bemba and Lumbala were
anti-peace in Congo.
"Despite atrocities by Mbusa's soldiers on the population in northeastern
Congo, certain UPDF generals have continued to back Mbusa because of proceeds
they get from Kasindi border post," Kahasa told a press conference in Speke
Hotel on Friday. He said the revenue collection at Kasindi border post near
Bwera in Kasese was the fourth highest in Congo after Matadi, Ndjili airport
in Kishasa and Kasumbalesa.
