MBARARA municipality MP Winnie Byanyima has said she had spent her Christmas holidays with her husband Col. Dr Kizza Besigye who is in self-exile.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday at her home in Mbarara, Byanyima also said it was the right time to start debate on President Yoweri Museveni�s succession.
�I had fun with my husband and son Anselm during Christmas. It was only unfortunate that we could not be in Uganda to visit our friends and relatives here,� Byanyima said but declined to reveal the country where she met Besigye.
�Museveni should not stop us from talking about his succession. He is not the one to tell us what to think about, what to say and what to do,� Byanyima said.
During the Capital Radio �Capital Gang� talk-show on Saturday, Museveni said Ugandans should focus on serious issues instead of talking about succession.
�Museveni should stop confusing us. We are not kids. Uganda is not his farm and we are not his cows. This is our country,� said Byanyima, a wife to Besigye, a former presidential candidate.
Byanyima said Museveni should not have said that it is too early to talk about succession when he had three years to end his last presidential term.
�This is not too early to debate about Museveni�s succession. We should start right now because three years are not far from today,� she said.
Byanyima said the previous presidents before Museveni were toppled by force, but that the opposition now wants to use the constitution and dialogue to change government.
She attacked Mbarara district council chairman Fred Kamugira for saying the constitution should be changed to allow President Museveni a third term.
�This is nonsense. Is he (Museveni) better than Clinton (former American president), who had to rule for only two terms?� she asked.Ends
