- Today we mourn the passing of an old friend by the
name of Common Sense.

- Common Sense lived a long life but died from heart
failure at the brink of the millennium. No one really knows how old he
was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
Or maybe by those 'contacted' by the INS out in California, who because
of the backlog of work, shredded tens of thousands of
applications!

- He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools,
hospitals, factories, rural villages and offices; helping folks get
jobs, and medical attentions, all done without fanfare and
foolishness.

- For decades, petty rules, silly laws, frivolous
lawsuits and SLAPP suits by industry against citizens, held no power
over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons
as to know when to come in out of the rain, what goes around comes
around, no kind deed or word is forgotten, the greatest amongst you
shall first be servant to all, love your neighbor (all colors-classes),
and that life is USUALLY {rare moneyed exceptions} NOT FAIR!

- Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies
don't spend more than you earn, don't own a charge card, and adults are
in charge of kids. "No, you can't go to Disney World, too bad you have
to wear cheap jeans, don't trust people who don't keep promises or
commitments, and NO, everybody is not kind, gracious, giving or loving;
and most probably could care less if you dropped dead in front of them.
Don't use words like friend or hero unless you know what they mean. Yes,
I know some have educations handed to them on a silver platter and treat
college as a four year party. Working two jobs and sleeping at the YMCA
will have you appreciative of every hour of class. I know, I know, the
others are going on Spring break, and traveling the world. I have an
idea! With such generous parents why don't you see if they won't adopt a
friend for their pampered offspring? And yes, evil exists in people with
expensive suits, big cars and $200.00 haircuts and life is what happens
when you're planning something else."

- A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great
Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived rock
and roll, gala protests, rebellious wanderings to exotic lands, tongue
and body parts piercing, orange spiked hair, mini-skirts, nude romping
drugfests in hayfields, gangs, smoke hazed esoteric musings, breast
implants, granola-bean curd weight loss programs, jog till you drop,
line-dancing, keg parties, metal jungle gyms, asphalt playgrounds, kids
riding in the bed of the truck, catching fireflies until 1:00am (no
blaring curfew), loitering in parks(not considered an illegal gathering)
neighbors gathered on front porches (now secluded decks out back),and
with no malls, shopping downtown on Friday nights. People lived where
they worked with no worry of foundry's and mills and auto manufacturing
being shipped to Third World countries to fatten corporate hucksters
bulging coffers. Common Sense was the only mourner at the demise of
grandmothers in billowing flowered dresses, aprons, lilac perfume and
blue hair.

- Common sense took a turn for the worse with the
burdens of asinine, bureaucratic incompetence and overbearing federal
regulations. His throat constricted as he watched people being ruled and
defrauded by self-seeking lawyers, tagged lobbyists, bleary eyed, whisky
swilling corporate plunderers , drone-hived alphabet agency personnel-
"just following orders", Judicial robed gods writing law instead of
interpreting it, and appointing presidents! Common Sense was sickened at
glib talking imposters, patronizing in public but back stabbing and
abusive in private. A handshake and a man's name, he noted were now
meaningless! Mandates and loopholed legalesse now dump all costs, all
bailouts, liabilities, stranded costs and fraudulent business practices
on unsuspecting hard working citizens.

- Common Sense, went on dialysis as he watched schools
become, not places of learning, but experiments of social engineering.
Zero tolerance for kids, but not for Savings and Loan banks who ripped
citizens off to the tune of $500 billion! A President using the Oval
Office as his own private bordello, while six year olds are charged with
sexual harassment for kissing a classmate!! Industry killing thousands
(Bophal-USA-Mexico-etc.), and corporations ripping off pension funds of
tens of thousands of citizens; yet a teen gets suspended for taking a
swig of mouthwash after lunch or wearing a politically incorrect
T-shirt! Schools have to get permission to administer an aspirin but
cannot inform a parent when a female student wants an abortion (which
could result in the child's death or being rendered sterile!!) Parents
are totally responsible for allowing this insanity to be perpetuated on
those they are supposed to protect. Their children!

- Common Sense lost his passion for living as he
witnessed music, the arts and literacy robbed from the future; replaced
with mind altering drugs (ritalin) for exhibiting signs of childhood,
metal detectors, cameras and security guards roaming school hallways.
Common Sense watched in disbelief as upwards of two million citizens,
mostly minority and poor, were locked up for non-violent crimes, while
the military industrial complex prepared for vaporizing, annihilating,
nuclear war. The theft of a video tape could incarcerate a youth for
life; with an insane 'three strikes you're out' policy, as 'experts'
report of '800 strikes' of missiles being planned to shock a slimy
dictator to his senses. This is applauded as sane, legal and
liberating!

- Common Sense gave some feeble cries hoping some would
hear his plea for sanity and reasoned discourse! Seat belts, helmets,
air bags, no smoking cities, spies hired to catch minimum wage (second
and third jobs) clerks at convenient stores selling cigarettes to
someone under 18, who would be exposed in a years time; perchance they
go to war, to depleted uranium weapons, anthrax shots, chemical dumps
exploded and massive oil fires!! Common Sense was mocked, ridiculed,
labeled and shunned by those who for monetary, social, political or
family reputations; succumbed to
fear-passivity-apathy-indifference-silence-isolation and politically
correct words, thoughts and actions. A circled-wagon mentality has them
only conversing or being seen with like-minded, approved, zombies.
Silent alarms denote the approach of the "others", with 'Keep Out, No
Trespassing, Protected Zone, Gated Community," signs quickly
posted.

- Common Sense died outside the city gates in the
darkness, much like the lepers of Biblical times, their only epitaph
only sign of existence announced - "Unclean". The scavenger gnawed bones
of his fellow friends;
Truth-Trust-Courage-Honor-Valor-Integrity-Faith-Love and Hope rested
below in a blood soaked ravine; skulls crushed by clubs and rocks hurled
by those appointed as exterminators and terminators for the elite. With
consciences deadened, and hearts hardened, they killed their
countrymen!!

- Ignorance, greed, murder, hatred, rage, anger,
venegance, lust, disgust, malevolence, stupidity, madness, and mindless
drunkenness; toasted good riddance to their passing remarking: "Now that
we've finally rid ourselves of the last vestiages of conscience and
heart we can get down to the business of global enslavement and
destruction." Compassion and her sister Peace, hidden in the shadows of
an ancient Oak, whispered, "NOT QUITE YET". THE BIRDS TOOK UP THEIR
SONG, FIRST QUIETYLY AND THEN, WITH A ,JOYFUL SYMPHONY! "THE WRONG SHALL
FAIL THE RIGHT PERVAIL WITH PEACE ON EARTH TO MEN OF GOOD WILL."
