Dont Peg Federo On Kingdoms

By Emmanuel Mulondo
THE speaker of the Toro kingdom assembly (Orukurato), the Rev. Clovis Kyalimpa, has opposed a federal system pegged on cultural or traditional institutions.
Kyalimpa told the Constitutional Review Commission on Wednesday, that it would cause problems similar to those of the 1966 crisis.
He said cultural leaders should be divorced from politics.
He said there was no official kingdom position on the matter yet because the leaders were divided over the issue with some advocating for a kingdom state.
Kyalimpa, who is also the Rwenzori Anglican diocesan secretary, recommended that the Government support to the traditional institutions should be made clearer when the Constitution is amended.
He said when the Government gives handouts to cultural leaders, it appears like a bribe.
