Lango unprotected - Atubo
By Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda
Otuke County MP Omara Atubo told Parliament yesterday that the security situation in Lango has continued to deteriorate and people are in a state of hopelessness.
In a statement of personal explanation to the House titled "Human Tragedy in Otuke", Mr. Atubo said people under his courageous and principled leadership have totally rejected and vehemently denounced rebellion and rebel activities.
“It is, however, most disappointing that despite our open and genuine rejection of rebellion, the government has failed to protect us against rebels,” he said. “It has become a monotonous and repetitive chorus by the president and his ministers to thank the Langi for being good and foresighted people for rejecting rebellion; yet in return what appreciation do we receive?”
He said the payment of rejecting rebellion has been insecurity, instability, poverty, poor social services, low standard of education, and distrust and disrespect for the political leaders of Lango.
He said because of its geographical location which makes it very vulnerable to rebel attacks from Acholi in the north and cattle rustlers from Karamoja in the east, peace and security in Otuke can only be maintained by the permanent, adequate and strategic deployment of soldiers.
