People living in the Mt. Rwenzori region are scared of being blown up by land mines.

Kisinga sub-county chairman, Benjamin Baita, said land mines have been discovered in Kalingwe hills.

He was speaking at a party hosted for Lt. Col. Dula Mawa Muhindo at Nyabirongo Primary School in Kisinga on February 12.

He said a team of land mine experts from Britain visited the area last month and confirmed the presence of the mines.

The mines are suspected to have been planted by rebels of the Allied Democratic Front (ADF).

Mr. Baita appealed to government for help. Colonel Muhindo who is the commanding officer of the Rwenzori Mountain Brigade warned youth against joining the rebel ranks.
