WATCH OUT: Kigongo speaking in Wakiso yesterday |
By Alfred Wasike THE vice-chairman of the Movement, Alhaj Moses Kigongo, has blasted Movement leaders for indiscipline especially in public.
Kigongo, now on a nation-wide crusade to revitalise the Movement, accused Movement leaders of failing to reconcile people and of undermining the Movement democratisation and industrialisation process.
He said as the chairman of the disciplinary committee, he would not tolerate leaders who are undisciplined, particularly when they are in public.
We must go back to the discipline of the bush days, the usually soft-spoken senior Movement ideologue said in Luganda and English. He was addressing more than 100 Wakiso district Movement leaders at the newly-created districts headquarters yesterday.
Tetwagala fujjo (We dont want chaos). The Movement has a code of conduct. We shall punish the anarchists very severely. Dont get involved in intrigue. Dont label your opponents as rebels without evidence. Dont be selfish. Dont let power corrupt us. Our people did not die in vain in the bush. Dont mix personal with national issues. Dont mix development needs with politics. Turn back to God, he warned. The need for peace, development, national security and other needs cut across all religious, political, ethnic or colour limits. Whether you are UPC, DP, Muslim, Christian, omusamizze (witch), these things affect you because you are a Ugandan. I appeal to your patriotism. The unnecessary hatred, jealously and other ill-feelings should stop. Movement leaders should particularly not discriminate against people of different views, he emphasised.
Highlighting some of the Movements achievements like the success in the UPE programme, immunisation, fast economic growth, national security and others, Kigongo said, The Movement has done a lot of good things. But all these can fail to win support for us from the opposition if we dont behave well, love one another, forgive others and love our nation.
He warned, D!
ont lov
e money too much. Dont commercialise elections. Dont be greedy. Dont malice others. Be honest. Account for public funds properly.
He said, I want my fellow countrymen to realise that there are indicators in our time that Uganda might face problems soon. Listen to the way they talk on the radios. I appeal to you to open your eyes and scrutinise them very carefully. Some politicians have confused our people and left them at the cross-roads of our political life. The Movement is the way forward.
He, however, backed FM stations ebimeeza talk-shows.
On President Musevenis succession, he said, Let us not hurry. (The year) two thousand and six is an ordinary year. We fought for the rule of law. We shall follow the law to the letter. But hand your views to the Constitutional Review Commission, he cautioned. He dismissed as a Movement initiative an organisation called Civic Education for Development Organisation Limited.
A counsellor, John Bosco Kamya, said presidential Adviser Maj Kakooza Mutale collected sh5,000 each from 3,000 youths in Wakiso District without explanation. He showed a receipt dated August 6, 2002. Ends
