What if Arrow boys marched on K'la?
In his Arrow Boys Are UPDF Reserves (The Monitor, September 8), President Yoweri Museveni blames everyone else but his leadership. The saying, "A bad workman blames his tool" may well describe the state of our "fearless leader."
"--Greed for power outside the Constitution," the President says. Look, who is talking? Does the saying, "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones" ring true here?
Since the President is a student of violence, he should know that violence begets violence. Now at the throne, he should not assume that the very violence that gave him "--power outside the Constitution" will not be his Achilles' heel.
Of course, this is not militarisation of the population, but the Musevenian doctrine of empowering the population. Accordingly, these boys [Arrow Group], empowered by ajono [local brew] and AK-47s, will in the future be settling scores in the villages by blowing up one another's heads.
Maybe, sooner or later they will realise that the miserable pittance of $20 a month that they receive as the purported UPDF reserves, is slave wages compared to the luxuries of the high and mighty. Empowered, they might one day march to Kampala or Rwakitura and demand a share in the spoils. Then we shall know that the country has been empowered and created in the image of the founding father of the 7th Republic.
