THE Government has approved the creation of 10 more Internal Displaced Person's (IDP) camps in Kitgum district.

State minister for disaster preparedness Christine Amongin Aporu said in a statement on Saturday that the new camps were at Madi-Opei, Lagoro, Kitgum Matidi, Labongo Amida, Labongo Layamo, Labongo Akwana, Muchwini, Omiya Anyima, Orom and Nam Okora.

By July there were over one million people in the camps in north and northeastern Uganda.

Kitgum had seven camps while Gulu had 33 and Pader 12. More camps have since sprung up following the insurgency in Teso.

Aporu, while at a Katakwi town council rally, appealed to humanitarian agencies and partners to incorporate the new camps into their programmes.

She said the Government and the World food Programme were currently delivering food to 304,459 IDPs in the Teso region alone, adding that Action Aid, the Christian Children's Fund, and the Uganda Red Cross were some of the implementing agencies assisting in the food distribution in Teso.
